About Us
Northern Dance Academy, renamed in 2006, was originally Deborah McFadden School of Dancing – established in Kenridge in 1991. The academy teaches dance in Classical Ballet, Modern and Contemporary. In, 2021 NDA celebrated 30 years of teaching and educating young dancers.
The afternoon program at Kenridge Primary School is designed for dancers to learn Ballet from Pre-Grade R to Grade 7. All students have the opportunity to participate in class tests or examinations and the annual showcase.
The studio at NDA is situated at Trikores Farm on Tygervalley Road, the afternoon program comprises of Ballet from school grade 8 upwards, Contemporary from school grade 5 upwards additionally an Acceleration Program that includes Floor Barre and Horton Technique for strength and flexibility, Release technique for Contemporary and Repertoire plus a Vocational program to prepare dancers for further dance studies.
Deborah McFadden is a Practical Teachers Supervisor (PTS) and Mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) – Deborah runs a morning program for the training of teachers in Modern dance (AIDT).
Deborah has taken students on several dance tours / summer / winter schools overseas – Italy (July 2002), London (July 2005), New York (December 2008 and 2012) and Amsterdam/Marseille (2022)
In December 2006, Deborah created a contemporary dance company, Northern Dance Project, that have performed at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival from 2007 – 2018 as well as local productions in Cape Town at the Baxter and the Artscape Theatre. 2021 NDP celebrated 15 years of performing.
